Have you been wondering? Jake’s –> Muriel and Sebastian’s
You may have noticed that a couple of Jake’s locations have changed to Murial and Sebastian’s. Don’t worry, it’s the same good ice cream, I had some today.
Two of Jake’s Ice Cream’s Three locations have changed their name and are under new ownership. The locations at Clairmont and North Decatur and Piedmont and 10th Streets are now Muriel and Sebastian’s Ice Cream and Yum Comforts. The new name comes from owner, Robin Chism’s beloved dogs.* Chism was one of Jake’s first customers at the North Highland parlor that closed last May. He visited the store weekly for the Ice Cream and the homemade sandwiches. He loved the store so much he opened his own on North Decatur Road near Emory last year. The store, located in the original Atlanta Baskin and Robbins location has been a hit for Chism. He has enjoyed it so much that he has also purchased the ever-popular Midtown location in September.
After a 6 month run, Chism has decided to make a go of it on his own. He began his mission to create a new company that maintains the quality and eclectic feel they started with. In late November the Midtown store got a facelift and a brand new state of the art ice cream kitchen. Muriel and Sebastian’s is excited about the opportunity to serve the same great homemade ice cream that Atlanta has come to love but to create new flavors. The new ice cream kitchen will allow Muriel and Sebastian’s greater freedom in creating specialty and custom flavors. In addition, the ice cream is made in small batches to insure that each bucket is consistent and is served at its freshest. “The new company will represent Honesty, Integrity, Creativity, Willingness and Openness”, Chism says. He and his staff at the two stores are excited about the opportunity for a fresh start.
I went to the one in Midtown last weekend, and it tasted about as good as ever. Works for me!
they have been ordering their ice cream from Hanks Ice Cream, who is located across the street from the zoo, and sells the ice cream for half the price. the owner is attempting to try to make ice cream but not the same as it used to be. Be careful, they are not sanitary, not cleaning the machines like they are suppose to, and breaking health and agriculture laws, that would shut them down, permanently.
Bibhec,
Is it Hank’s or Muriel and Sebastian’s that is allegedly not sanitary?
It is Muriel and Sebastian’s that is not sanitary, i know i work there, and i won’t eat the ice cream.
i just went to the N. Decatur shop to get ice cream, wow, it wasn’t pleasant. The guy with the long hair isn’t there, he was fired, as i understand it because he expressed his feelings how the company is going. Anyways, the old lady, who is partial owner, is a nasty bitch, and doesn’t know what she is doing. and yes, they did have some Hanks ice cream. it is not the same as it was a month ago.
I went there a week ago to the Midtown Location and behind the counter was very dirty. However I tried the Ice Cream which tasted ok at the time, but when I got home my stomach was really messed up. I will not go back there.
The truth of that story is that the new owner screwed Jake out of the business and took it over. I worked there for a couple of months and believe me Chism has no clue on how to run a business, I mean he hired an 80year old woman to run the Decatur store!!!
Tyrus, your stomach was messed up, because they are not cleaning and sanitizing the ice cream machines properly, so you ate some bacteria. Chism doesn’t know what he’s doing, he has screwed his key employees from both of his stores, who built the business, Copas, the 80yr old, is part owner, so they both screwed Jake.
