ìYou really canít dwell on the fact that youíre SEC East champions too long,î he said [Bryan McClendon]. ìOur main focus is our trip to Atlanta […] against Georgia Tech.î Story from Georgia.Scout.com

Nothing is more confusing than growing up in Athens and now living in Atlanta. What’s a guy to do? Who should I woof at or what should I sting? Is it the Dawgs or the Jackets? Who should I root for? Help me!

When I was a Paramedic in Athens, we used to really get ready for this game because we knew it was going to be a long night. Some group was going to be pissed and some group was going to want to party all night. So, I just planned on no sleep.

Now, years later, I just can’t decide if I should wear yellow or red and black – if I should sing “Rambin’ Wreck“:

“…I’m a Rambling Wreck from Georgia Tech and a hell of an engineer,
A helluva, helluva, helluva, helluva, helluvan engineer,
Like all the jolly good fellows, I drink my whiskey clear.
I’m a Rambling Wreck from Georgia Tech and a hell of an engineer…”
(Lyrics)

… Because I do drink my whiskey clear, don’t cha know…

…Or Glory to Old Georgia?

Glory, glory to old Georgia!
Glory, glory to old Georgia!
Glory, glory to old Georgia!
G-E-O-R-G-I-A.
Glory, glory to old Georgia!
Glory, glory to old Georgia!
Glory, glory to old Georgia!
G-E-O-R-G-I-A.
(lyrics)

Okay, so how drunk was the person who wrote those detailed and inspiring lyrics?

This was the version we used to sing in Athens at the football games:

Glory, glory to old Georgia!
Glory, glory to old Georgia!
Glory, glory to old Georgia!
AND TO HELL WITH GEORGIA TECH
Glory, glory to old Georgia!
Glory, glory to old Georgia!
Glory, glory to old Georgia!
AND TO HELL WITH GEORGIA TECH.

Of course, when I went to Georgia, I always got a nice tech guy to tutor me so I’d get an “A” in math. Oh well, guess I’ll have to spin the whiskey bottle again OR just root for the hosting city team. That’s IT!

The true fight song for the University of Georgia, Hail To Georgia:

Hail to Georgia down in Dixie!
A college honored fair and true,
The Red and Black is her standard,
    Proudly it waves!
Streaming today and the ages through,
She’s the fairest of the Southland,
We’ll pledge our love to her for aye,
To that college dear we’ll ring a cheer,
All hail to dear old UGA!

    Hail, our Varsity of Georgia!
Thy sons will eíer thy glory sing:
    To thee weíll ever be faithful, loyal and true;
Ever and aye will thy praises ring.
Grand old time of ours at Georgia
    The happiest days theyíll be always;
    Alma mater, fair beyond compare,
All hail to dear old U-G-A!

    Go Dawgs! Wreck Tech!

Hey, go post this UGA crap over on Metroblogging Athens! Also, you might not want to piss off the Techsters, they know how to bring your sites down using DoS (as well as make bombs out of water bottles).

I have to root for both teams because, I may have gone to Georgia but, my brother went to GA. TECH! Momma said, YOU BOYS BEHAVE! and so we did ever since. Of course, wearing Yellow, Red and Black all in one day did make both of us a little dizzy. But, then, we were a bit ‘dizzy’ LOL… Therefore, GO TECHDAWGS??? Hmm, that never did have a ring to it.. Steve.

Let’s see… I attended both schools and I think I have a pretty good bead on which is a finer institution of higher learning, however my loyalties lie in Athens where my father’s family is from, and where I spent four great years of my life… And it goes a little something like this: (not exactly the school approved, version but pretty fun to chant
    )
What’s that coming down the track?
It’s a big machine and it’s RED and BLACK!
Ain’t nuthin’ finer in the land…
Than a drunk obnoxious GEORGIA fan!
    Go Dawgs!
Born in the backwoods, raised by a bear
Double set of teeth and a double cut of hair
Two brass balls and one big rod
    I’m a mean mutherf*****
    I’m a Dawg by God!
    Go Dawgs!
Gooooooo Dawgs! Sic ’em! Woof, woof, woof!
