Orphan Studio
I was going to write this amazing post about local audio recording space Orphan Studio (not to be confused with Orphan Studios, local video production), to be accompanied by pictures I took there two weekends ago, but my wife has an aversion to Flickr and I value my life.
So, instead, I’ll just let you know that, nestled by the railroad tracks off of Northside Drive is one of the coolest, most intimate studio spaces I’ve ever experienced. And that’s saying nothing, considering I’ve really only been to this one place. But still, it impressed me.
Glenn Matullo, the owner/operator, has a really great, local thing going for him. He’s produced The Josh Joplin Band, The Indigo Girls, Shawn Mullins and John Mayer, among others.
Glenn’s wife Cynthia works with my wife, hence the visit. We brought our little girl to play with their little boy (and a few other parents and children) and record the results.
Sadly, I still don’t have photos or audio (boy, this post really does suck) but a good time was had by all. The kids enjoyed the train going by the studio and the adults had fun with the sleighbell and mics.
For all you John Mayer fans, Glenn is thanked numerous times on John’s indie debut Inside Wants Out.
This seemed like a cooler idea in my head. I think people like Glenn and Orphan Studio who work with local artists, specifically the lesser known ones, need to be cheered on. The more people who have access to making music, the more cool music we get.
Just my two cents.
Orphan is also the best place in town to get a voiceover demo produced, for those aspiring voice actors out there.
