If It’s Not Scottish It’s Crap!

This weekend the 33rd annual Stone Mountain Highland Games will take place at Stone Mountain (DUH!).

That’s right men in skirts kilts will be walking around (ask what they wear underneath at your own risk), the annoying lovely sound of bagpipes will fill the air, and telephone poles cabers will be tossed at will.

Tickets for the festivities are $14 adult / $4 children (6-12) for Saturday and $12 adult / $4 children (6-12) for Sunday. And, don’t forget the $8 per carload it will cost for parking inside Stone Mountain Park.

For you Harder Core Scots there will also be a whisky tasting and seminar on Friday afternoon (3:00pm) at the Century Center Marriott. Seriously, this is one of their “Official Events”. Tickets for this event are $11 for adults over 21.

Sadly, there is no mention of a haggis eating contest…

As a Scottish man and unofficial Scottish Ambassador for this here Metroblog, I’ll now officially going to say I’m EMBARASSED by this event

I was dragged there last year and I seriously wanted to burn the event to the ground for the ungodly amount of oh-so-faux stereotypes walking around.

I am of Irish / German decent myself, but having graduated from Dunedin High School in Florida (Dunedin — a bastardized spelling of the original name for Edinburgh, Scotland) I thought I should post about Stone Mountain games (besides a good friend of mine spends a lot of his time volunteering for these games).

If the Stone Mountain games doesn’t raise your kilt, try Dunedin’s version.
