Rock & Reel in Decatur

Paste Magazine has relocated moved to a different office in downtown Decatur, so guess where their big music and movie festival will be? If you guessed “Alpharetta” — you’re very funny, but “No.”

The two-day Paste Rock n’ Reel Festival descends upon East Decatur Station on October 22 & 23 and will feature performances by Low, Mark Olson and Victoria Williams, Over The Rhine, Buddy Miller, Elf Power and several other musicians and bands of the alt-“Rock”-folkie variety. The “Reel” half of the festival will consist of a short film competion, two documentary presentations and a visit from the Brothers Chaps (aka the folks behind Homestar Runner).

Admission is $15 for one day and $25 for the whole weekend. You can either order your tickets on the Interwebs or do it person at Criminal Records in L5P or Decatur Records in … you know where.

Relocated to Decatur? Since when was Paste Magazine not in Decatur; that is where they started.

Interesting… I took a picture of what is (apparently) Paste Magazine’s new building – we didn’t know at the time what it was and wondered aloud to that effect. I also was wondering if there was an independent record store in Decatur. Looks like both my questions have been answered!

Amber, that’s actually our old building, which we’ve more than outgrown. Funky, but not functional. In two weeks we’ll be moving to East Decatur Station, home of PushPush Theater and Figo. That’s also where the fest is.

Wow! Reid I am glad you said something relating East Decatur Station to PushPush otherwise I would have gotten off at the Decatur Marta Station and wondered where the festivities were.

On the down side now I need to make alternate travel plans…

Well, it’s not ideal, but it IS walkable. Or, at least, I’ve done it, which isn’t quite the same thing.

While I’ve walked all the way from Decatur MARTA, you can walk from Avondale MARTA to East Decatur station pretty easily though. Just cross the bridge to the south parking lot, the walk down the sidewalk along College Ave. toward Decatur.
