Google Talk

It’s live, kiddies!

Baby Google IM on ‘roids – I haven’t had a chance to play with it yet, but you can check it out here. I’m a die hard fan of Trillian and its ability to merge all my buds, but I’ll give this a whirl, report back on my findings, and look forward to hearing what you think of it too.

    Initial findings:

-Lumps together your text unlike other IM clients…if you type three lines (with hard returns) instead of giving you three different “Maigh says:” type lines, it groups them into: “maigh: digit I mean…interesting lumping

    and window binding”

    – Call functionality seems to work, but I can’t play with it in earnest just now…

“Incoming call from jXXXXXXXXXXXX@gmail.com at 10:24 AM on Wednesday

Call from jXXXXXXXXXX@gmail.com missed at 10:24 AM on Wednesday”

    So far, kinda groovy.

i don’t like the munging of all my text under one “Tommy says:”. Too used to trillian, irc, and other chats that preface each line with user name.

Hmm, I used Trillian once. Now what the heck was my login?

If you used Trillian your login is/was whatever it was for the clients you loaded…

I had a quick chat this morning with Metroblogging founder Sean Bonner just because I could.

Looks pretty cool so far and it works through my company’s firewall! As for a multi IM client check out GAIM, it works like Trillian but it’s Open Source. http://gaim.sourceforge.net/

So did this Google talk thingy launch in Atlanta, only? Or maybe it’s a tool you can use to find cool atlanta hotspots? No? I didn’t think so.

Am I the only one seeing a proliferation of posts that have nothing to do with the city? Things about rashes, toys, software, engagement announcements, killing weeds, etc.

You guys all have your own blogs, right? And you’ve heard of engadget, boing boing and metafilter? So what is the point of this site again?

As far as I know, posts like this aren’t the reason for this site. And there seem to be more and more of them.

There used to be a moderator on this site that would tell people when they got off-topic. Is he/she still around?
