Simpsons and Atlanta

I can only find one reference of Atlanta in Simpson’s archives. And that is that when the family goes to NYC, they fly through Atlanta. However, Futurama has an entire episode based in the lost city of Atlanta. In that episode, it is explained that “Atlanta moved offshore in an effort to boost tourism. The city overdeveloped and its excess weight caused it to sink to the bottom. Everyone that stayed with the city evolved into merpeople, with the assistance of leaking chemicals from Atlanta’s Coca-Cola plant.” I also remember a moment in the episode where it is revealed that Atlanta wasn’t really a city at all, just one giant airport.

Any other references?

Correction – in that episode, the Simpsons don’t fly. They bus through Atlanta to get to New York – where Barney had left their car. Hope that clears things up.

Didn’t the Simpsons take the bus to NYC, complete with a double stopover in Atlanta

I thought that the Simpsons drove to NYC. Did they not get their car booted and Homer drinks too much while waiting for someone, sees a bus heading to Flushing Meadows, and races up the WTC to use the restroom?

Maybe it was all a dream.

There was also the Simpsons episode where Homer had to drive a big-rig truck to Atlanta. I think the city welcome sign said something like “Welcome to Atlanta – Home of Ted Turner’s Mood Swings” or something like that.

I thought when they went to NYC, they took the bus and wondered why they had to change buses twice in Atlanta.

There is also the episode when they go to London and Homer gets put in London Tower for having a car accident with the Queen. His release was conditioned with bringing Madonna back to the US. At the gate, Homer throws the duffel bag full of Madonna and says “See you in Atlanta Sucker.” He might say “jerk” instead. Or it’s something like that.

    Yeah Heartsfiled-Jackson!!!
