Does she even need it?

The Mayor’s campaign is returning some money:

Over the past several years, Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin’s re-election campaign has accepted tens of thousands of dollars in contributions that exceeded the legal limit, her campaign officials say.

Mandatory campaign disclosures show Franklin, who is preparing for the Nov. 8 general election, returned about $90,000 to dozens of donors in recent months. Her campaign manager, state Sen. Kasim Reed (D-Atlanta), said about $70,000 of the money was returned to about 40 donors who contributed more than the $2,000 limit allowed under state law. The rest was returned for other reasons, he said.

Does she really need any of the money? I mean, she’s extremely popular, wins awards like nobody else, and doesn’t really have any serious opposition.

My guess is that it’s really all building up for exploring a U.S. Senate campaign…

So many donators… is it maybe because of the write-offs? They should put some system in place that puts the excess donations towards improving public programs. And just disclose that when they are collection the campaign donations.

i don’t think shirley franklin wants to run for anything after mayor….except maybe john lewis’s seat….

she’s not really a politican. she’s administrative. in several interviews on gptv she has stated her shyness and discussed how it took her a long time to get used to the limelight.

please note, however that she is a great candidate and humbleness and a media darling despite her introverted self.
