Back-To-School Merry Widows, Anyone?

From July 28-31, there’s a statewide sales tax holiday in Georgia.

Says the Georgia Department of Revenue’s web site:

House Bill 5 provides for a sales tax exemption from both state and local sales taxes for four days, July 28 ñ 31, 2005, for the back-to-school shopping season.

Back-to-school shopping, eh?

Here are some of the clothing items that State of Georgia considers “back-to-school” enough to exempt from sales tax this weekend.

Baby clothes
Bandanas
Belt buckles
Bow ties
Diapers, cloth & disposable (adult and baby)
Garter and garter belts
Girdles
Hunting vests
Knee pads
Lingerie

I can only conclude that school is a lot more fun now than it was when I was a student.

A complete list of what’s exempt and what’s not can be found here.
