Helpful tips in Atlanta

A friend just e-mailed me this list with some helpful tips for visitos to Atlanta. Some of them are pretty good –

  • Gate One at the Airport is 32 miles away from the Main Concourse
  • The falling of one rain drop causes all traffic to immediately cease; so will daylight savings time and a girl applying eye shadow across the street, or a flat tire three lanes over.
  • Ponce de Leon Avenue can only be pronounced by a native, so do not attempt the Spanish pronunciation. People will simply tilt their heads to the right and stare at you.

Especially that last one there.

The page, however, misspelled “y’all”
Note to those of you who don’t know how, it isn’t “ya’ll”. “Y’all” is a contraction of the words ‘You All.’ If you remember, you put the apostrophe in place of the letters you took out. So it’s “y’all”

Moving here from Florida, I was quickly chastised for pronouncing Ponce ;)

Thank you for the clarification about the y’all contraction. I HATE having to go through the explanation, and it bothers me to no end when someone does it the OTHER way. Guess I’m pretty anal… Your post made me happy, though.

    Thanks

I’m also forever correcting people on the proper spelling of y’all. I like combining it with another contraction, for example if you were to ask a group of people “What’s your favorite restaurant?” since “your” is plural, southern-speak would translate to “What’s y’all’s favorite restaurant?”
