A Trivial Matter

On Tuesday nights, I sometimes meet up with friends at Cheyenne Grill in Buckhead for a night of music trivia. Although I donít contribute that many correct answers, it is a highly entertaining evening. The great part about Cheyenne is that it has two kinds of trivia simultaneously happening. Music trivia is live with a host, and then NTN is the one where you get a controller pad and answer questions on the TV.

People get real serious at trivia I discovered. There are several teams who attend every single week and get all pissy if they feel shorted by any question. The questions are very difficult, covering music from the 60ís-today. In the past other teams have been known to cheat using their cell phones to look up answers. Not my team, of course.

Are there any other good spots in town to play trivia? I know that Cheyenne has ëadultí trivia in Thursday night, which Iím considering trying in the future. Maybe Iíll be the adult trivia rockstar; music trivia just isnít my forte.

Atlanta is a very trivia-friendly town. There are tons of locations for the standard-issue Team Trivia, one of the better ones being Central City Tavern (Wednesday nights). The more challenging Bustin’ Heads Trivia can be found in Snellville, Buckhead and Alpharetta on various nights of the week. I think the Vortex still hosts Simpsons trivia, but I may be wrong. And the most formidable trivia arena is reportedly Manuel’s Tavern on the corner of North and N Highland Avenue on Sunday nights.

A slightly different live format is also available at Johnny’s Pizza in Inman Park on Monday nights. This trivia outing is run by The Trivia Factory.

In addition to The Trivia Factory, there are also a lot of trivia games run by Team Trivia. Including one at Wednesday Braves games.

“There are several teams who attend every single week…”

Yeah, I’m in a team that goes every single week, but we don’t get pissy… at least I don’t think we do. We’re The Burninators. We rarely place. But we have tons of fun losing!

No the Burninators are always great- it’s the other regulars that I shall not name….. My team is regular, but not a regular name- we sit in the bar hightops near the wall.

My “Meet The Hashers” team plays Monday nights mostly at Taco Mac and Johnny’s. We used to venture to Twain’s as well until they altered the format.

We get our most joy finding out that we are the nemesis to other teams and having teams name themselves after us (such as “Beat The Hashers” and “Eat The Hashers”).

Daniel…please tell me you’re not one of the Ned Flanders Brigade!

Dear lord, no, Kristie, I’m not. My team name changes every time and we usually are out of it about 3 questions into the second half. We don’t play every week, but when we do, we sit in that front section pretty close to the question-caller-person (that way, I can still watch the Braves game).

That is good, Daniel, I’d hate to call you out so soon after meeting you. We’re going Tuesday, sitting in the middle…I’ll be the one with the Hefe-weizen!! Be sure to stop by!

Ahh, adult trivia. Much goodtimes are had at that trivia and I must say that is my forte’. Now don’t read too much into the adult portion. It really is just about sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll. So if you know you danced on the hood of White Snake’s car or what plant cocaine come from, then you might have a chance.
