The award-winning Atlanta Falcons

So hopefully I’m not the only one here eager for football season to start. You know times are bleak when this is all I can dredge up:

Congratulations to Falcons general manager Rich McKay for winning the Pro Football Writers Association’s Horrigan Award, “which goes to a league or club official for his or her professionalism while helping football writers do their job.”

They will give an award for anything these days. What exactly does that mean, “professionalism while helping football writers do thier job”? Did he wear a tie when answering questions at press conferences? Did he speak entirely in professional sports cliches? Maybe he doesn’t cuss. Beats me. Congrats nonetheless.

I wonder if those are the same people who give out the Montgomery Burns Award for Outstanding Achievement In The Field of Excellence.
