I browse the New Orleans Metroblog as well as this one to keep up on what’s going on in my original hometown. Mike Hoffman posted a link to Intel’s most unwired cities last week.

Atlanta comes in at #6 in terms of available wi-fi access. I understand Seattle, San Francisco, Austin, and Portland topping the list, but how’d Toledo beat us out? I’m just joking, Toledans. I’m sure your city is very nice.

Our rank doesn’t actually surprise me all that much. When I moved here I was absolutely amazed at the amount of wi-fi there is here. It seems just about every bar and cafe in Midtown offers the service. I was really impressed. And it seems it has been business that’s driven the trend, rather than a municipal project, like Wireless Philadelphia is trying. Although, Philly’s wi-fi is free. Unfortunately, they come in at #50. It may be free, you just can’t find it.
