One local response to the London attacks

Earlier today, I received this e-mail, a general response to my Don’t Panic column in Creative Loafing.

After what happened this morning, your not funny anymore, infact you never where. You should write reall reporting, like what Muslims are really like. Peace loving. YOU need to get the facts straight. Bush is not the problem, you obviously have a problem. Wrong motives is the problem. Hate is the problem and if you don’t like it leave already. you choose to live hear. So shut up already.

Why do ignorance, hatred, bad spelling and incoherence always seem to go together?

And why did a terrorist attack on London’s mass transit system prompt someone to write an angry letter to me, of all people — an atheist Marylander who wishes that domestic security spending was higher, and whose numerous columns about Islam have been so critical and disrespectful of the religion that they usually prompt angry letters from Muslims!

Oh, well.

On a semi-related note, the BBC radio coverage available by clicking the “Live Audio” link on this page is superior to the TV coverage we’re getting here. More news, smarter anchors, less idiot-punditry, and despite the BBC’s unwaveringly sober tone, a much better emotional sense of what it means to be a Londoner today.

I think all that email need to make it a grand slam was a sentence about her one token Muslim friend.

Now, I’ll admit to being one of them danged foreign folk in the ATL, but why, why, WHY must the thinking people in America be the ones to leave? Why is it that the raging lunatics with narrow minds and gross generalisations think they’ve the authority to cleanse their land?

Call me cynical, but it seems that wherever you go, the stupid people are the ones running rampant…

I think people post angry letters to you because you are an easy target. You are in the paper. And you write a lot things not every one agree with including myself. So what, We as I said before have our opinions, live with it is America for God’s sake. Try writing for the AJC maybe you will have a better choice of people writing you angry letters.

I think people have the right to have an opinion, they can think the way they want to think. It is a free country. Isn’t that why you write? There is so much going on in the world today, find the good stuff. Everyone has something to tell, instead of picking on them try to find out why they feel the way they do.
No one is stupid, except people who call other people stupid they may just be uninformed.
