an open letter to Sean Bonner

Dear Sean,

So I hear that Yahoo! has acquired a 45% stake in Metroblogging. I’m a little skeptical, given the date, but the other metblogs seem to be taking it seriously.

Now, while this move is worrying some of our peers, I’m a little less worried. Television Without Pity is just as bitter and cynical with the Yahoo! TV alliance as it was beforehand, and I doubt Yahoo! is going to start dictating our content (though they might take over our ads). (Side note: Yahoo! is already asking for content changes over on the West Coast.)

But that’s not why I’m writing. The reason I’m writing is that, unlike the metrobloggers in friendly, public-spirited cities like San Francisco, Chicago and Montreal, we here in the ATL are all about one thing, and that is CASH MONEY. Our soulless, corporate, Gekkoesque hearts beat loud and strong. Our hometown megacorporation was mowing down everything in its globalizing sight when Wal-Mart was just some place for Arkansans to buy guns. Hell, even our Olympics were privately funded.

All I’m saying is: at the very least, Kendall ought to get a new pair of shoes or two out of this. At Phipps. If you know what I mean, and I think you do.

Capitalistically,
Jessica

P.S. [added 4/4/05] — You think that just because the Yahoo! thing was an April Fools’ joke, that I’m kidding? I’m not kidding. When do we get paid?
