should you ever need a lawyer
The Atlanta Bar Association has a Lawyer Referral and Information Service. Basically, you call them and tell them what’s going on, they give you the name of a lawyer who’s “in good standing” with the Georgia state bar, you pay $35 for a half-hour of that lawyer’s time. If you need more than a half-hour’s time, that’s up to you and the lawyer. Obviously your experience is going to vary from lawyer to lawyer, but this is a voluntary service on their part — they’re not required, as best I can tell, to do this for ABA membership — so you should get good treatment for your $35.
Other cases might be better off with help from the Atlanta Legal Aid Society, the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers’ Foundation, the Georgia Advocacy Office, or the Georgia Lawyers for the Arts. This page and this page should help you with local legal questions.
