Monopoly, no whip
Mia (at AJC’s Dating blog) has some suggestions for a couples “date night”:
Get creative with date night. Experiment and find fun things to do together. Take a board game to a coffee shop. Go to the local amusement park. Have a picnic in the park. Enjoy a quiet meal at a restaurant.
So I was in Apres Diem (has free wifi, but I’ve been there when it wasn’t working) the other day (late-afternoon on a weekday – ah, the wonders of grad school) and there were three groups of people playing various board games that they had brought themselves. One group was playing Cranium (maybe Cranium Turbo?), another was playing Chutes & Ladder (I kid you not), and the third was playing a game that I was unfamiliar with but reminded me of Scategories (if anybody knows of a game that fits this description please let me know). It seemed odd, all these different games (I’ve been known to place chess and backgammon in bars and coffeehouses), but I guess it really isn’t.
What will shock me will be when I see people playing D&D there.
“reminded me of Scattergories” doesn’t help. Thingamajig? Smarty Party? The one with the NPR guy?
Come to the Loop tonight (off Chamblee-Tucker) or Atlanta Game Factory some Sunday and see how the hardcore do it.
