No More Dogwood

I am a moron!

I had previously posted that The Dogwood Brewery is closing up. Then I said that there would be no more Sweetwater 420. This is what happens when I start a post before I’ve had my coffee and then hit “save” without re-reading it. Sweetwater is not made by Dogwood, it’s actually made by … The Sweetwater brewing company.

The fact is that Dogwood is closing, Sweetwater was quoted in the article and the rest of my post makes a little more sense now. Man, I’m rough on Fridays.

Out of the things mentioned, two points were somewhat interesting to me: Cheap wine has gotten better and low-carb beers are taking over the market.

I’m all about cheap wine getting better. But as anyone who knows me will tell you, I despise any and all things low-carb. My thought has always been: If you’re on a diet, don’t eat ice cream. Don’t eat “Fat free sugar free carb counter plus lite whipped ice treat.” You know better. I try to stay in shape and I know I shouldn’t drink a ton of beer and I know I shouldn’t eat a ton of ice cream but you know what? When I want a beer I drink a beer. Moderation people! And now this nation of carb-counting zombies has deprived me of my sweet, sweet, Sweetwater. Damn you all.

And to the point that wine and spirits are “hipper” than beer: I’m somewhat of a beer snob. If I’m meeting people for a drink after work, or I’m meeting up at a bar and I meet people for the first time and the situation calls for a beer and you order an apple-tini, I’m very likely not to talk to you ever again. Friday after work on a hot Atlanta evening calls for a beer or ice-water. Those are your two options. I don’t care how hip you are.

    NO!!!!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!!!

I read that story yesterday and somehow didn’t make the mental association that Dogwood made Sweetwater 420, which has been my favorite beer the last year or so. This is a travesty.

Whew, thank God. Apparently, I didn’t read that article as closely as I thought I did.
